Third Place Overall - MITRE Embedded Capture-the-Flag
MITRE's eCTF (embedded capture-the-flag) is an embedded security competition, with the main target is a real physical embedded device.
The eCTF is a two-phase competition with attack and defense components. In the first phase, competitors design and implement a secure system based on a set of challenge requirements. The second phase involves analyzing and attacking the other teams’ designs. In this competition, I was the team lead to design and implement a modern chip-and-PIN ATM system, including the firmware, software, and protocols for the ATM card, the ATM, and the Bank Server to support secure cash withdrawals. Our team won the Golden Flag Award (for capturing the highest valued flag) and the Third Place Overall Award.
Google Award - CIS455/555 Internet and Web Systems
We proposed and implemented a highly scalable, distributed, and robust search engine named PennCH3 for the final project.
PennCH3 not only searches the web but also displays information from a variety of sources, including soccer scores, stock quotes, weather forecasts, and shopping results. Users can also submit searches using their Alexa-enabled devices. Under the hood, the system is highly scalable and uses replication for fault tolerance. PennCH3 won the Google Award as the best project out of 22 teams.
First Prize - F1/10 Autonomous Racing Competition
Our team won the first place at the Inaugural F1/10 Autonomous Racing Competition held during ES Week in Pittsburgh, PA!! Check out our first full lap during practice session here.

Grand Prize - Cornell Cup USA 2012
Cornell Cup USA, presented by Intel, is a college-level embedded design competition created to empower student teams to become the inventors of the newest innovative applications of embedded technology.
In this competition, our team worked on project Prescription Drug Identification and won the Grand Prize out of undergraduate/graduate teams from other universities in U.S. including MIT, UC Berkeley, etc. As the team leader, I was responsible for monitoring the entire design process, developing database structure, developing GUI, developing image processing algorithms and integrating main software/hardware firmware/databases.
Best Demonstration - Intel/PSU Intern Symposium
During the internship at Intel Products Vietnam, I designed a hardware, software and database solution named “Chuck Verifier and Management System” (CVMS) to dramatically cut down the time for testing/managing spares while increase the reliability of testing process. The project won the “Best Demonstration” award.
